Part-Time Banquet Captain in Vancouver

Job Description

“Position Purpose:
The Banquet Supervisor is often the primary contact with the client on the night of an event, and is required to liaise between the client, our event delivery team, the kitchen and possible third party vendors/ suppliers.  Additional areas of responsibility include assisting the management team with administration of events, daily reporting on events, billing and other required paperwork.  Banquet Supervisors must also, on a continuous basis, keep service rooms, pre-function space, and storage areas clean, organized and unobstructed. 
 
Reports to: Assistant Conferences & Catering Manager
Supervises: Banquet Servers
Employee status: Part-time, Hourly
Hours per week: Varies
Start date: As soon as possible
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Oversee a team of banquet servers during events, promoting team spirit and positive relations
* Setting up and breaking down of rooms according to client specifications which include moving tables, chairs, setting A/V equipment, buffets etc.
* Prepare tables, action stations, buffets, service carts, dessert table/carts and cordial carts with specified tools, wares and equipment according to the AMS Standards
* Inspect the cleanliness and presentation of all china, glass and silver prior to use
* Prepares, loads and safely stores Food & Beverage items, equipment and supplies in the AMS catering van
* Establishing rapport with guests through prompt and courteous service
* Liaises with guests to ensure all requirements are met and problems dealt with in an efficient manner
* Accurately serve food and beverages to guests as per the Banquet Event Order or specific needs
* Ensures Food Safety protocol is adhered to at all times
* Ensures cleanliness of relevant areas
* Reports feedback to Catering & Conference management following the event
* Reports work orders to the Catering & Conference Manager
* Working with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department
* Works as a duty manager when scheduled or required
* Other duties as required
Qualifications and Experience:
* Preference will be given to applicants who hold a valid BC driver’s license
* At least 6 months experience in a supervisory role (in a high volume banquet/catering facility an asset)
* At least 2 years of banquet experience
* Must be at least 19 years of age
* Ability to carry 3 plates and a tray
* Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
* Demonstrated superior skills in customer service and organization
* Detail oriented
* Ability to perform tasks in a timely manner
* Ability to follow instructions
* Serving- It- Right certification is required
* Food Safe level 1 certification or higher an asset
* Experience in a similar role an asset
* POS management experience required, Micros knowledge an asset
* Language: Required to speak, read and write English, with fluency in other languages being an asset
* Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and late nights
