There are 8 Kelly O’Bryan’s and Carlos O’Bryan’s locations in 6 different cities throughout BC and we are continuing to grow after 29 years of opening our first location. The warm cozy glow of this Irish style pub, and the joyful, energetic hum of the guests and staff alike is what people fall in love with right away. On top of an ambiance people crave, we have a Barstool Handbook with over 300 different drinks and a food menu with food so delicious and comforting you’ll never want to leave. We offer a free meal on your birthday, Blarney time 2 for 1 appetizers after 9 o’clock and Happy Hour every day from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. We pride ourselves on customer service that makes you feel more like you’re part of the family than just a part of the day.
We are looking for 2 sous chefs for Carlos O’Bryans Neighbourhood Pub & Kelly O’Bryan’s Neighbourhood Restaurant located at 1774 W 7th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6J 4Z9. This is a permanent full-time position (40 hours per week).
The job duties are as follows:
• Prepare, plan and cook complete meals, such as sauces, soups, salads, vegetables and meat, poultry and fish dishes, and ensure meal presentation is to the highest quality
• Supervise kitchen staff, cooks and other kitchen workers
• Demonstrate new cooking techniques and training to kitchen staff
• Ensuring that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our quality standards
• Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situation
• Order supplies to stock inventory appropriately
• Comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards
• Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
Successful candidates must have the following credentials:
• Minimum 2 to 3 years’ experience as a sous chef
• Post-secondary education in the field is not required but is an asset
• Be able to communicate in English
• Should be willing to take on leadership roles
• Flexible hours between day & night shifts
• Have an inner sense of urgency
• Have a willingness to learn
• Have knowledge of inventory control
• Proper use of kitchen tools and equipment and lock out procedures
• Knife skills and common cuts
• Basic understanding of culinary terminology
• Be able to work with pre-set spreadsheets
• Ability and willing to complete Food Safe Level I
• Ability and willingness to complete WHMIS or equivalent (workplace hazards training)
• Understand and implement proper fire safety procedures (training provided)
